Besides 'Googling' Canada Summer Jobs Attestation, to get a better understanding of what is at stake for Christians in Canada, below is a copy of 2 emails Pastor Lewis has received in the last week.

Correction: Parliament to Vote on Canada Summer Jobs: Write Your MP

Hi Lewis,

On Monday, our team sent you an email in which I encouraged you to ask your MP to vote in favour of the motion on which Parliament will be voting on March 19.

The motion itself was omitted from the body text of that email. Please accept our apologies for any confusion the omission may have caused. The motion text is now included below.

On March 19, all members of the House of Commons are required to publicly vote on the following motion: That, in the opinion of the House, organizations that engage in non-political non-activist work, such as feeding the homeless, helping refugees, and giving kids an opportunity to go to camp, should be able to access Canada Summer Jobs funding regardless of their private convictions and regardless of whether or not they choose to sign the application attestation.

I encourage you to contact your local Member of Parliament (MP) about this motion. Below is a sample of what you may wish to include. To find out who your MP is and how to contact them, go to ourcommons.ca/parliamentarians/en/constituencies/FindMP.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to request that on March 19, you vote in favour of the motion on the Canada Summer Jobs attestation requirement.

The result of this vote will directly impact our charity, many other charities here in our city and beyond, and those helped by such services—from refugees settling in Canada, to children who might not otherwise be able to go to camp, to people who are homeless or affected by poverty. We cannot agree with the requirement of the government to force us to make the attestation. Agreement with the attestation will result in the removal of many such services. Compelled speech violates the long-held democratic rights that have existed before the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, have been reiterated in the Charter, and are recognized in the Canadian Human Rights Act. We urge you to vote in favour of the motion to keep Canada a nation where diversity of belief and democracy are allowed.

Sincerely,

(Your Name and Ministry Name)

Again, on behalf of our team, please accept our apologies for the initial omission of the motion text, and please continue to pray for Canada, our leaders, and this vote on March 19.

With thanks,
Barry W. Bussey
Director, Legal Affairs

Please Pray: Canada Summer Jobs Motion in Parliament

Hi Lewis,

Please consider participating as a community or as an individual this Sunday, March 18, for a day of fasting and prayer, a day for humbling ourselves before the Lord and asking Him to intervene in the parliamentary motion on Canada Summer Jobs, scheduled for Monday, March 19. MPs will be voting on the following motion:

That, in the opinion of the House, organizations that engage in non-political non-activist work, such as feeding the homeless, helping refugees, and giving kids an opportunity to go to camp, should be able to access Canada Summer Jobs funding regardless of their private convictions and regardless of whether or not they choose to sign the application attestation.

Prayer Requests

On Sunday, March 18, please pray for

  • the government, which is currently requiring Christian charities—including churches—to agree with statements related to sexuality and abortion in order to receive funding from government;
  • the MPs who will vote on this important motion on Monday, March 19, 2018;
  • Christian charities, including churches, facing the requirement to potentially change their position on matters of conscience to receive funding to serve people; and
  • students relying on these positions in the Canada Summer Jobs program for work, who may now be without a job this summer.

"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Thank you for joining us as we ask God for His will to be done in Canada. To learn more about the Canada Summer Jobs issue, read our blog series, here
